Chevening Scholarship

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Government hands out a limited number of illustrious Chevening Scholarships to post graduate professionals annually. Individuals who have worked professionally for at least two years in the career of their choice have the chance to study in the United Kingdom for up to one year, taking courses to work towards a Master's Degree. These prospective students must be working in fields related to political science, journalism, international studies, or law. The primary characteristic that distinguishes qualified applicants from everyone else is their future as leaders. This characteristic must be demonstrated in prior work, both professionally and academically. The Chevening Scholarship provides a unique opportunity for young professionals to expand their knowledge in various aspects of their careers in order to make a greater influence as leaders.

Students who receive the scholarship will take courses anywhere from three months to one year. It is recommended that applicants choose the courses they plan to take, and secure acceptance to the university of their choice before applying for the scholarship. The Chevening Scholarship is only given for British universities; however, scholars are accepted from over 150 countries. This award can only be applied toward postgraduate study, excluding studies toward doctorate degrees. The scholarship will pay for tuition, up to approximately $20, 000 in U.S. currency. Additionally, scholars will receive a monthly allowance and money to pay for books and other expenses. All travel involved will also be paid for as part of the scholarship. Anyone who is interested in applying for the Chevening Scholarship should contact the British Embassy or Council in their country to learn more about the application process and specific deadlines.
