Apply for the Hope Scholarship
Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE) is a program that financially assists students in Georgia who have sustained good grades, starting at the high school level. There are different ways in which students can apply for the Hope Scholarship, depending on what type of institution they will be attending.
Students who have recently graduated from high school are eligible for a Hope Scholarship if they graduated with a "B" average, are U.S. citizens, and are residents of Georgia. Awards are offered to college students entering public and private colleges or universities to earn at least a two year degree. Students can also receive assistance to pay for technical college, where they can earn either a diploma or a two year degree. Georgia residents who wish to apply for the Hope Scholarship can do so by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Hope Scholarship and Grant Application, if they are attending a public or technical college. If they fill out the FAFSA form, they do not need to submit the HOPE application. Students in private colleges must apply through the Hope Scholarship and Grant Application.
Recipients of the Hope Scholarship for public schools will have their tuition and necessary fees paid for and they will receive $100 each quarter to pay for books. Students in private colleges will be awarded $1500 each semester if they are attending school full time, and $750 if they are attending part time. Hope Scholarships are renewable for recipients whose grades have remained adequate, but they must apply for the Hope Scholarship each year they want it renewed. Any students who have been awarded Hope Scholarships or Hope Grants in the past can only receive more funding if the total has not yet covered 127 hours of credit.
