Kin Canada Bursaries
After the death of Hal Rogers, the founder of Kin Canada, in 1994, the volunteer organization created the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. Hal Rogers appreciated the importance of a quality education and made it a priority to encourage continuing education. The fund was established to carry on his dedication to higher learning. Kin Canada Bursaries is one of the programs that is sponsored by this fund.
Kin Canada Bursaries are available to Canadian citizens, or permanent residents who have permission to live in Canada, who are presently in school full time. Applicants can be graduating seniors in high school, or students in any college, university, or trade school. They should have high grades and be active in the community, either through volunteer work or professionally. Students can study in any field; areas of course work are not factors in the selection process. The main point of consideration is financial need.
The amount of each award given through Kin Canada Bursaries is $1,000. Students who want to apply for a scholarship should be able to obtain an application at any high school or college in Canada. Applicants are asked to mail their applications to a Kinsmen, Kinette, or Kin Club in their area. Each Kin Club is allowed to nominate only one candidate for the Kin Canada Bursaries, but the number of scholarships handed out depends on funds available in the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. New applications and important dates for the next year of awards will be ready this fall.
