Miss America

Young women across America who are searching for scholarships can find numerous offers when they compete in the Miss America Pageant. The Miss America Organization provides nearly $50 million in scholarships annually to contestants at every level of the competition. Many of the awards are funded by outside corporations and individuals sponsors, as well as contributions made by the Miss America Organization.

The Miss State Scholars award is an academic scholarship that is handed out at the state level of the competition in each state. The amount of the award is $1,000, and is to be used for tuition and related fees, and books and materials needed for the classes that will be taken. This scholarship is awarded based strictly on academic performance. Miss America contestants who wish to apply for the Miss State Scholars scholarships must submit an application including transcripts from the last two years of school they attended.

Local, state, and national contestants who aspire to go into the medical profession as doctors can apply for Allman Medical Scholarship. Dr. David B. Allman was the president of the American Medical Association and the Miss America Pageant. After his death, his wife created the Allman Medical Scholarship in his honor. The number of scholarships granted per year depends on how many applicants are actually qualified. Any woman who has participated in any level of the Miss America pageant since 1996 can apply for one of these scholarships. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievements and ranking in school, and on financial need. Women are allowed to apply for an Allman Medical Scholarship yearly, between January 1 and June 30, even if they have applied in the past.

All scholarships awarded through the Miss America Organization are paid directly to the college or university that the recipient will attend.
