Nursing Scholarship

The United States government offers scholarships through the Nursing Scholarship Program to students enrolling in undergraduate nursing programs. The nursing scholarship pays for tuition, costs of enrollment, and supplies for courses required in nursing degree plans. The scholarship is awarded in exchange for at least two years of full time employment in facilities that have nursing shortages.

United States citizens and nationals are allowed to apply for the scholarship if they have secured acceptance and are enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited college or university. Applicants are required to fill out the Verification of Acceptance/Good Standing and Tuition and Fee Data Collection Form that is provided by the Nursing Scholarship Program. Enrollment must be for classes beginning between July 1 and September 30, and only in schools located in the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia. There is also a contract to be signed for the year of study under the scholarship, and it is suggested that applicants sign contracts for up to three more years when they submit their applications.

When selecting recipients for the scholarships, priority is given to those candidates who are full-time undergraduates. Part time students are also eligible, but will only be awarded scholarships if funds remain after full time students receive their scholarships. The amount of expected family contribution is also a factor in choosing which applicants will be presented with a nursing scholarship and is the first thing considered when the choice is between part-time graduates, full-time graduates, and part-time undergraduates.

In addition to covering the cost of tuition, fees, and books, the scholarship includes a monthly stipend of $1,202 for full-time students and $601 for part-time students. Payments made by the Nursing Scholarship Program will not contribute to electives and courses that specified in the nursing degree plan.
