PhD Law Scholarship
PhD law scholarships are offered by two great universities in England. The University of Manchester, one of the largest institutions in England, awards postgraduate scholarships to full time students conducting research. Scholarships will pay for tuition and the cost of maintenance for the research; there is no set amount for how much a research scholar will be awarded. After the student has enrolled in the School of Law research program, the maintenance stipend is distributed quarterly. Included in the PhD law scholarship is the option to use a common workspace and to obtain a computer and storage. Students are also given £40 to pay for copies, for the entire year, and they can apply for a £300 Research Support Award to help pay for conferences that they will be attending. Manchester's PhD law scholarship is a one year scholarship, but can be renewed if the research is progressing at an adequate rate.
One of the most recognized research institutions, Birkbeck College, offers two PhD law scholarships through its School of Law. Created in honor of the founder of the School of Law, the Ronnie Warrington Scholarships in Law are three year studentships for postgraduates. Study and research can be carried out in any area that is part of the core curriculum, but preference is given to legal theory, socio-legal approaches, and interdisciplinary research. Scholars will be chosen based on their academic record and research capabilities. The one year PhD law scholarship pays for tuition, either full time or part time, and may be renewed for two more years, depending on the progress of the research. Ronnie Warrington scholars may also have the chance to earn money as part-time teachers in the School of Law.
Applications should be made to either of the Schools of Law before applying for scholarships.
