Air Force ROTC

The Air Force ROTC offers three types of high school scholarships to seniors who are interested in studying for careers in engineering, chemistry, and other technical and scientific fields. Students who apply for the scholarship should know that they will be expected to serve in the Air Force for a minimum of four years after college graduation and to make a career in the Air Force in their field of study.

The Type I ROTC High School Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and includes up to $750 for books each year. This is a four year scholarship. The Type 7 scholarship is also a full four year scholarship and awards approximately $750 for books. However, students who receive the Type 7 scholarship are required to attend a college where yearly tuition is less than $9,000. That scholarship can be changed to a Type 2 scholarship, which is awarded for three years, if they plan to attend a college where tuition is more than $9,000 per year. A Type 2 ROTC High School Scholarship pays for a maximum of $15,000 for tuition and fees, along with the $750 for books annually. In the instance that a recipient of the Type 2 scholarship attends a college that costs more than $15,000 per year, the student is expected to pay the remaining balance.

The Air Force ROTC uses a composite of high school test scores and ranking to measure eligibility for any of these scholarships. Qualified students must be ranked in the top 40 percent of their class, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and scores of at least 1100 on the SAT and 24 on the ACT. The ROTC high school scholarship applicants must be able to pass a physical fitness test. Only qualified United States citizens are eligible to apply.
