Goldman Sachs Global Leaders

In 2001 the Goldman Sachs Foundation teamed up with the Institute of International Education to form the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program. With the world changing at a rapid pace, and governments and businesses across the globe becoming more reliant on one another, the program was created to bring the brightest and most promising future leaders together to learn and share their knowledge, viewpoints, and experience. The Institute of International Education has become affiliated with over 100 colleges and universities in 19 countries to recognize excellent students and reward their achievements with an opportunity to come together to form a brotherhood of new leaders.

Each of the affiliated colleges is asked to nominate between 5 and 10 of their top second year students for the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program. The students are required to have at least a 3.7 GPA, or to be ranked in the top ten percent of their class, as well as being leaders in their school government and other school activities. Nominees must be attending school full time in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in any major. The Global Sachs Global Leaders Program is not limited to United States citizens; however, it is a necessity that nominees speak English. Once students are nominated they can submit an application, essay, and recommendations.

After the consideration of factors such as the ability to communicate, leadership qualities and evaluation of academic records, approximately 150 students are chosen to be awarded with the title of Global Leader, along with $3,000. Half of the honored students, after interviews, are selected to go to the Global Leadership Institute in New York, where they will attend seminars and training conducted by current leaders. This event allows the students to meet one another and discuss global problems, while learning new leadership skills.
