Scholarships for Lower Incomes

Each year millions of scholarships for grants are awarded to college students from low-income families. This gives hope to students all over the country who come from low-income families and who do not have the best academic record. It is comforting to know that many schools, organizations, and even our government recognize the need for the underprivileged to receive a college education.

One of the most widely known and awarded grants is the Pell Grant, which a federally funded grant for low-income college students. All students who are searching for scholarships for grants should go to the financial aid office of their school and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is how it is determined which students are eligible for the Pell Grant or any other type of federal financial aid. The amount that each student receives depends on the degree of financial need, the cost of tuition at the student's school, whether the student plans to attend one semester or an entire academic year, and whether that will be full time or part time. The award is approximately $4,000 at its maximum. Students who have performed well academically can also seek scholarships for grants through the federal governments. College freshmen and sophomores who qualify for the Pell Grant could also be awarded the Academic Competitiveness Grant. Students who have shown leadership and who have served the community may be eligible for this grant. Awards are initially $750 and may be higher the following year. Juniors and seniors in college who still need scholarships for grants and are studying areas of math and science could receive the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant. The amount of this grant is $4,000. A GPA of 3.0 is required to renew either of these grants.
