Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund
The Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund offers a scholarship program for civilian employees of the federal government and postal workers. Over $7 million in scholarships have been awarded through the program in the past twenty years. The federal employees and their dependents, children and spouses are eligible to apply for FEEA scholarships if the workers have been employed with the government for at least three years.
The FEEA scholarship program awards scholarships to employees who are attending school part time, and to dependents who attend school full time. Eligible students must be registered in academic programs in an accredited post secondary institution leading to a degree, and they are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0. To apply for a FEEA scholarship, an application must be submitted with a complete transcript, letter of recommendation, and an essay. All extra-curricular activities, interests, and volunteer history should be included on the application, as all of FEEA scholarship program awards for civilian federal and postal employees are based on merit.
Funds for the scholarships are donated mainly by federal employees, with additional support from the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association. Since the amount that is donated in each region is different, the amount of each scholarship will vary depending on the funds that are available and in which region the scholarship is awarded. Typically, scholarships are anywhere from $500 to $2,500 for one year. If a scholarship is more than $500 it will be divided into two payments, one for each semester. As long as they are eligible, scholars can reapply for a FEEA scholarship each year they are attending school.
Employees and dependents who are interested in the FEEA Scholarship Program can obtain applications each year from January to March. The application deadline is always at the end of March every year.
