UK Scholarship
Students from all over the world use scholarships to pay for studies in the United Kingdom each year. The British government funds many grants, scholarships, and fellowships for various institutions and fields of study. Some UK Scholarships are funded by universities and other organizations.
The Department for International Development sponsors the DFID Shared Scholarship Scheme in partnership with participating universities in the United Kingdom. This scholarship is aimed at post graduate students in Commonwealth countries who have shown high academic performance. Eligible students must be planning to study in a field significant to the development of their country. The award is also based on financial need and candidates are not allowed to be studying under any other scholarship program. Another UK scholarship that is associated with commonwealth countries is the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. This program brings approximately 400 commonwealth post graduates and teachers to Britain for research and study opportunities. Candidates for these awards must be nominated by the committee in their home country.
The Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme is a merit based award for research at a British University. Post graduate students from any country, studying in any discipline, can qualify for this UK scholarship if they have demonstrated impressive work, both in research and scholastically. Students should apply at the British University where they plan to study full time.
The British government offers a scholarship for promising leaders through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Over 2,000 post graduates who are pursuing master's degrees in any field can apply. However, the courses they take should be relevant to the development of their country, and their home country must have an economic affiliation with the United Kingdom.
Information regarding UK scholarships can always be obtained through the British Embassy of the prospective student's home country.
